A client of mine just got into a major magazine. Happened a few times before but this time it's a full page in the magazine and website..including a nice link. I'm putting up a page about it, but was wondering if this shouldn't come with some added promotion. Have any of you done anything special to maximize such an event?

Is it worth a press release? I've done one PR before, years ago, but it didn't do much. Is there a particular angle/P.Release company that might work better?

Always! Anything newsworthy for the site takes special precedence and always gets lots of play.

Depends on whether or not it is really "newsworthy". If so, then by all means, send a Press Release. But, do it selectively and utilize a premium service. You'll need to do some legwork there.

What we usually do is request permission from the publisher to reprint the article online. We'll also get any supporting media from them such as images used, magazine logo, etc. That will then become part of the /news/ archive and add one more page into the mix. Its all part of the process. Major magazine articles are always a plus as they give you a little more content to work with and use in specific promotions.

Congratulations on the mention. Depending on the circulation, hopefully your server is prepared for what may come your way? ;)

Well it's always newsworthy to you that your product makes a major magazine ;) But I don't think the average joe would care :)

That's pretty much what we've done in the past and are planning now.

Yup, dedicated servers. Magazines never took down any of our sites except once on my own site. And that only happened because Yahoo! copied that link to one page off their front page....as soon as I streamlined the landing page it made one hell of a one day spike!
