Using keyword in subdomain

I have a site, which provide online iit courses. But now I want to provide medical courses in India too. So I am making a sub-domain of my site, I little bit confused that what would be the perfect name of my sub-domain. I have chosen two names
aipmt.xyz.com
or
medical.xyz.com

Please suggest me what would be better.

It really makes very little odds - but go with the one that most of your potential customers will search for.

Is it wise to use a subdomain? Does it fit logically with the main site, or will that cause confusion? You may need to consider setting up a new, separate domain, despite the small extra cost.

does google put more weight on subdomains vs folders?

folder.example.com VS example.com/example ?

and if so, why?

Google used to treat subdomains as separate domains but recently announced that they are going to start treating them as folders.

When in doubt go with whatever works best for HUMANS not Google.

twenty.one.com works better than twenty.com/one for ranking on the phrase twenty one

If your parent website is ranking higher on search engines, then most probably your sub-domain will also pick up good rankings.

Using a keyword in sub-domain will surely help you, but in this case you are targeting "medical" which is too difficult to capture.

If most of the services are related to medical products, then surely this domain will help in search engine rankings.
