i use page related keywords on most pages - i've read they are not of value now too.

however i never believe all i read! but mostly i use the meta keywords for my own internal site search engine, of course they are in a database for this and i don't need to write them to the page, but i do anyway ... for me it just feels right.

I would never rely on Meta Keywords to help you achieve keyword rankings in the major search engines. Work on your Meta Title Tag - page title.

However, I would not leave the Meta keywords blank. I would make them page specific as recommended above.

For a dynamic site, it takes all of a few minutes to develop a keywords metadata element. It is good practice but don't get all caught up in it. If the words don't appear on the page, they don't belong in the element. Call it habit but I've used them since inception and just can't stop myself from adding them. I keep them very short. We also use them for other on site functions.

the value of using meta keywords is next to zero.

I'll make sure I retain the basic facility to have meta keywords but I won't worry too much about it.
