Marketing a product update

We recently updated one of our old products and gave it a fresh new look. I was wondering how I should handle the update on our website. We are no longer going to be selling widget A we will only be selling the new update which is widget B. The web page for widget A is named poorly. Should I create a new page for widget B and do a 301 redirect from the old page and remove it from the site? The basics of the product are the same I just thought this would be a good time to properly name the page of the product. The page is currently just named with the widgets model number. We could use a descriptive keyword or two in the title instead for better optimization.

Also what are some good website for press releases?

Hey brancook,

If you are really only talking about the page title, and not the URL, there is probably no need to add a new page at a new URL and 301. Far better to just update the existing page to feature the new product, and change the title and META data accordingly.

That assumes as you've said, that the old product is going away.

When I mentioned that it was named poorly I was referring the url, not the page title. Sorry about that.

Ah. Well assuming that the model number is changing anyway, that really makes the old page obsolete, URL and all. Given that, yes a 301 to the new page makes sense.
