Adding Video Improved Rankings

Does adding a video or videos to your website improve your rankings?

Hi everyone,

I have a question I'm hoping that you all can share your experiences with if you've ever run into this before.

Recently, my manager asked me in a meeting about a company website who added video to their website and dramatically improved their rankings. With my limited knowledge of video and embedding it into websites I always thought that there was no way to index video properly so I can't see exactly how the simple act of adding a video can improve your rankings.

If I had to think about it, if the video was compelling enough to draw a lot of traffic, the text surrounding the video was keyword rich and content-relevant then I could see it improving the rankings.

Aside from that, I can't see how just adding a video testimonial or a video tutorial can improve your rankings.

I'd appreciate hearing some of your experiences and thoughts on this subject.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

If the video garnered many more inbound links, then it would increase the ranking.
