Does it matter to have a dedicated IP for the bots?

Found an old article...

I came across this:

[webmasterworld.com...]

Basically, I am on a host right now that offers dedicated IP. My host sucks, and I want to move to a different one. The one I want to move to I KNOW is good, but they do not offer dedicated IPs.

Will this hinder me for the SE's? I found the thread above, but it was from 2005... has anything changed?

Looking for opinions... thanks guys!

I don't think it matters.

Actually I like some of my sites to live in obscurity of shared hosting.

Why does that matter?

In a shared hosting environment, 100's/1000's of sites are on the same IP address. If you have multiple shared hosting accounts with different hosts, your Grey/Blackish tactics may not get as noticed as most sites don't have a unique IP.

As I said, I don't think it really matters, as SE's don't appear to be banning at the IP level now.

Anyone know of a popular website that happens to be on a shared IP?

WebmasterWorld is one good example and you cannot even think of suggesting it isn't doing well with the bots. (Compare IP with searchengineworld.com)
