I should be getting a few dozen unique articles written in the next few weeks targeting keywords in my niche, but not directly related to my main site.

I don't think the articles will be informative enough for an article submission (feed) site, more like personal experiences using widgets.

Do you think I should post the articles to free blogging sites, start a new domain (an old one, listed in engines but not being used), or just post it as additional content to my main site.

What sort of linking structure do you think would be most effective?

Thanks!

With minor exceptions, content will always give most benefit on your own pages. Period.

If you want more rapid (and possibly transient) benefit, then add a blog to your own site.

For longer term benefit, nothing - nothing - beats building your own site.

Certainly, using your content to promote someone else's site will give you very little benefit.
