Robots tend to visit sites more often if they change frequently, have lots of traffic, and plenty of inbound links.

If it looks like nothing ever changes, they don't need to stop by very often.

Take a look at Google's Webmaster Tools. If you sign up for this free service, it gives you a lot of info on what Googlebot sees, what's blocked, and the option to change a few behaviors.
