Hi,

I run a content site and have a quick question - can having too many inward pointing links to your site's content on your homepage have a negative affect on search engine placings? If so anyone have any ideas on the optimum number of links you should place on your homepage? (or any page on your site for that matter.

Anyone

THe only guideline given is to keep the number of a links on a page to under 100.. so if you make it rather site mappy looking that's find as long as it's a reasonable amount of links

Put as many links as makes sense and is usable to a user and you'll be fine with the engines...

Just because a site is doing something and they're ranking in Google doesn't make every single thing they do, when looked at as a single item help them rank. They could be ranking because of one thing, because of that one thing coupled with thirty other things or in *spite* of that one thing.

I am not saying they are ranking well in google because of the sitemap on the homepage, i am saying google doent seem to mind the links sitemap on the homepage, as they have top positions...

I like the homepage sitemap idea beacause it helps people navigate my site right from the homepage, as well it would seem easier for SE to index you...so I just started doing it...I didnt think there would be a negative to it....
