My question is about profit from high search engine rankings in a popular Web services category.

What is your guess about the profit of a which ranks in top 3 on google for a competetive keyword phrase like "widget services firm", and/or or something less competetive like "affordable widget services".

How much traffic can such a site generate?

How much of such traffic converts to sale?

Any information, or suggestions on how to get more information, would be valuable for me.

A few hundred visitors a day which may convert into a few hundred $

How much traffic can such a site generate?

Depending on the category, hundreds to many, many thousands per day.

How much of such traffic converts to sale?

Again, depends on so many factors that generalizing is dangerous. Main factors include nature of product/service, action desired, quality of site, ease of shopping cart use, etc.

Generally, and I mean very generally, we look for between 0.5% and 20% conversion, depending on the above mentioned factors.
