RSS newbie needs some help re RSS - posts

RSS on individual posts not understood

Hi,

I am a relative newbie with not much technical experience. I hope you can help me understand RSS feeds related to my posts. I apologize if I use incorrect technical terms.

I have a WP site, my own domain www.example.com. The theme is set up for RSS. I submitted my site's RSS, using software for distribution.

What I do not understand is whether, in addition to my site's RSS, I should submit RSS feed for each post, www.example.com/post-name, I publish on my blog-type site. I could generate my post RSS feed using online tools.

I found contradictory info regarding this question. I was pleased to find this forum and a special section devoted to RSS and I think you will be able to help me with this embarrassing question.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld jordana.

I'm not a WP user, but many (most?) blog and CMS systems will offer you a means to ping RSS tracking services each time you add new content. However, even if you didn't use that feature, and you had manually submitted your feed to one of these services, like Yahoo, then they will eventually come back to check your feed for new entries. They have their own schedule for re-checking feeds.

I am not 100% sure but I think you don't need to submit individual blog post rss feed. When you submit RSS feed with your homepage url all post url will be automatically send.

But I also think if the blog post is very important it should be helpful for SEO purpose to submit individual blog post rss feed.

If I'm understanding you correctly I think we're saying essentially the same thing. I wasn't suggesting a separate feed for the individual post. Normally blog software will append the new entry to the site's feed.

When you ping these feed tracking/aggregating services you're just telling them your feed has been updated and they can come back and grab the new content more quickly. Otherwise they have their own schedules to come back and look for new content, and that may not meet your publishing schedule.
