Is it better to do separate feeds for different data (ie. 1 feed for new widgets, 1 feed for new widget manufacturers, etc) -- or is it best to stick it all in one feed?

If you have enough varied info and you think it would be of interest to your users then separate feeds can be a good idea. Many news sites do this so that you can subscribe only to the feeds you want. Ex. I may want the Tech News feed, but I could care less about the Sports feed.
I'd offer a combined feed as well for the people who want everything.

Try to keep all the information in a feed related so if the products are unrelated I would create a separate feed.
