Pinterest says it has around 2 billion searches per month and it wants to take advantage of that by offering PPC search ads. Its been running a test for a while but it's now ready to roll it out to a wider audience. The ads will be image-based, not text-based, in a similar way to the Pinterest site.
Starting out, Pinterest said it plans to sell the ads directly, though down the road thousands of advertisers will be able to purchase these ads using a self-serve digital interface, much like Google. Pinterest to Roll Out PPC Search Ads [wsj.com]

hehe, you could look at it that way. They have to pay for the system, and I would assume that you are making something from being in Pinterest. If you're not... you know what action to take.

I have been waiting for Pinterest and other mid-tier platforms to do this for some time. Why they are making me use Kenshoo is beyond me...what do all their techies do all day? Not hard to create their own ppc system. They say that will be down the road...they sure have lost a great opportunity. First takes them this long to figure out this is the correct strategy and now they figure it out and use another company to help roll out. There is no pricing on kenshoo page so I'm out...not wasting my time.

I wish they'd just partner with Google for search. I'm not sure if they noticed, but Google is kind of good at search.

It's objective to say they are good. It's only good for Pinterest if it fits with their business model. It will be interesting to see where it goes.

Not all Google Search is alike. Ever tried GCS?

Those searchers must have the patience of a saint, I've have a link to a Pinterest page on my site with all the pins from my domain and it responds painfully slow. There's no way I'd go to Pinterest and search for something new.

"It's only good for Pinterest if it fits with their business model."
And the biz models of those who advertise, and the personal interests of those who see the ads, and is a clearly better alternative to other available options.

I'd say it will only be as good as the extent to which you incorporate things like their tags. Use remarketing to target people who have interacted with specific board, topics, interests.

I can see this being really big for ecommerce - sectors like fashion, home furnishings.

It's clearly NOT going to suit everyone, but if you make the effort I think it's a useful opportunity.

As a footnote - this guide is probably the best I've seen for setting up tracking using the Pinterest Pixel, it's largely similar to the way in which you track Facebook Pixel activity, so should be easy to implement
