Adding to its buyable Pins capability, Pinterest is now moving in to video advertising on the main Pinterest feed.

The search and discovery company launched video ads on Wednesday, only its second ad unit outside of Promoted Pins. A short preview of each video ad will appear in the main Pinterest feed, but won’t play with sound. Once you click on the ad, you’ll be able to watch the video in full, with sound, while you scroll through as many as half a dozen Pins the advertiser has selected to accompany the video.

The idea is that advertisers to promote a product, then share related Pins that highlight how to use or buy whatever it is they’re promoting. Pinterest adds Video Advertising [recode.net]

Wouldn't that look like a bunch of animated GIFs all over again though?

Would be interesting to see a follow-up with some stats for these. Do you guys think they will convert well?

IMO Pinterrst needs more than this to increae its rep.

Navigation is awful, the site search quality is poor and the image retrieval from web pages returns irrelevant results much of the time (even with og tags on the target page) and moreso from the app.

I don't think they will convert well. People go to Pinterest to look at - in many cases - stolen copyrighted photos. I don't see them clicking on previews of advertising videos to view the rest.
