There's logic in Pinterest doing this: You see a photographer's work and you want to order a print, or there's this funky new widget that would look great in your house. Buy it without having to do a search. Another one chipping away at Google search dominance.

Pinterest, the digital scrapbooking service, is laying the groundwork for an e-commerce offering with a “Buy” button that could launch in as little as three to six months, according to multiple sources. One of the people cautioned Pinterest may wait longer to roll it out, while another said the shopping feature would likely start as a limited test.

The Buy button would allow Pinterest users to order and pay for some of the products they discover on Pinterest without leaving the company’s website or app, these people said. Report: Pinterest Working on "Buy" Button [recode.net]

I would be gobsmacked if anyone ordered a print from pinterest.

Boxes of Mason jars, maybe...

Will users have to pay to view full size versions of the images stolen from my website too and will I get a share of the profit?

Pinterest created a community based on stolen content and is now trying to make money out of our hard work. I just filled a few Pinterest DMCAs for graphics stolen from my website. It cost me hundreds of dollars to let a designer create these graphics. Now they are all over Pinterest, often without a link to my website. They are on Pinterest servers, thus Pinterest is responsible and not the user. What is the difference between this and pure theft?

You have the right to be more than frustrated about Pinterest where abuse has taken place.

This report is more about giving marketers the ability to choose to list products on Pinterest, and then for those marketers to make money from there. In other words, compliant businesses will have an opportunity to earn money.

Let it become a catalog of merchandise that people want to buy instead of copyright infringement. I am all for it.

However, it is mighty irritating that they block the content behind a SIGN IN wall.
