Q4 2020 Apple Sold More Phones Than Samsung

There's an interesting statistic come out of Gartner in that it showed Apple sold 80 million phones in Q4, 2020, overtaking Samsung, with 62 Million sales to take the top spot.

Samsung remains in the number 1 spot for annual sales, with Samsung at 253 Million, and Apple at 200 million.

while this might be considered "news", it is poorly framed.

apple released the iphone 12 in october and had 40% of 2020 sales in the 4th quarter.
samsung probably released phones every quarter of 2020 and had ~25% of their sales in the 4th quarter.

in other words, if samsung stopped selling phones when the iphone 12 went on sale, they would have still beaten apple for the year.
