Smartphone makers are keen to differentiate themselves, so I wonder if these phones just a gimmick.

Samsung Electronics, the world's best-selling smartphone maker, has launched a handset with a curved display screen.

I think it's a gimmick. After the lousy watch they came out with, I think Samsung is just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. Or to do everything they can think of so they aren't accused to copying anyone else down the line. And to have the strong position against anyone who may do something similar, even if better, down the line as well.
