“In five years I don’t think there’ll be a reason to have a tablet anymore,” Heins said in an interview yesterday at the Milken Institute conference in Los Angeles. “Maybe a big screen in your workspace, but not a tablet as such. Tablets themselves are not a good business model.”

And that is why BB is tanking. Lack of foresight. Tablets are displacing laptops and even desktops at a fast clip. I think that BB will not be around in 5 years and tablets will be everywhere.
I find it a little odd he's come out and said that. From a business point of view, I use a tablet, but only as a supplement to my laptop. It is not replacing my laptop. If you have a netbook and all you do is social networking for personal use, then I think he's wrong. The border between smartphones that are getting bigger, and tablets that come in all shapes and sizes, is blurring. They add to productivity, but don't replace the laptop or desktop for me.

Their management has proven that they don't have any foresight as they have been smashed by all of the other smartphones and are late to that game. Now apparently they want to convince everyone that they are correct about tablets.
