My house has really crummy cellular reception. I'm down in a bit of a valley out of line of site of the nearest towers.
That means that unless I leave my phone on the windowsill I miss text messages until I go outside the house. (Or put out the bucks for a repeater).
I found out the other day that my carrier is offering web/device access to your texts. I have an app on my nexus 7 and my son has one on his ipad. I also can access the texting through my PC.
The syncing is pretty good, not perfect, but good enough.
the real advantage for me is that I can take my pad around the house and read incoming/write texts at will over the wifi. If I'm at my desktop, I can use the Big boy keyboard to type.
I think this is something that the other carriers should look into. If you have the carrier offering this access, it's probably worth looking into.
