Inaccuracies and misplaced towns and cities in Apple's new map software have provoked anger from users.

In June Apple announced it would stop using Google Maps in favour of its own system, created using data from navigation specialist TomTom.

Apple is yet to comment on the complaints about the software, which comes already installed on the new iPhone.

TomTom said it provided only data and was not responsible for how it worked.

Finally took the plunge and updated to IOS6. The map app is horrible. It thinks I live a mile East of here. The functionality and interface is sub par as well.

Huh. Far as I can tell, it's got me living in the exact same location in the exact same parking lot across the exact same street* as before.

* Just a few days ago I was reading the New Yorker in a waiting room. One correspondent got absolutely livid about the use of "exact same". I mean, of all the things to get worked up about...

The maps of Japan are totally unusable. A co-worker updated his phone and I was shocked at the poor quality, lack of information and general mistakes. They partnered with one of the better known mapping companies, but still ended up with sub-standard maps.

I'm sticking with iOS5 until Google releases a proper Maps app.

I wonder if this will change the mind of any of these people:
