Over the past month or so I have implemented a major drive at redirecting mobile traffic to the mobile version of my main website. The main website has Adsense on it, Vibrant Media (in-text ads) and some affiliates.
All has gone very well on the mobile site with Adsense holding up well, not quite as good as the full site but far better than I thought.
But I had forgotten to include the in-text ad code on the mobile site so I asked Vibrant if I could use the same code on the mobile site as my main site. The answer was worrying.
Although in text ads work on a mobile phone they require two clicks (cos a mobile has no mouse) and they said it was not worth putting the in-text ads on the mobile site because the revenue would be almost 0 and might well lead to invalid clicks.
They also said they were considering the situation re mobiles and would get back to me when they had a solution.
Now, mobiles have been around for a long time and if they haven't worked a solution by now then .... probably there isn't one.
Do mobiles herald the beginning of the end for in-text ads? I think so, what do you think?
