Apple has confirmed that the next update to its iPhone software, iOS 4.2, will fix the alarm clock bug that caused owners throughout the UK to wake up late for work on Monday morning.

Apple issued a statement saying: "We're aware of an issue related to daylight-saving time and repeating alarms and will deliver a fix with the iOS 4.2 software update this month."

As one who does have DST, I think it is daylight savings time that is defective, not iPhone.

And these bugs always crop up because Congress moves daylight savings to stimulate the economy or whatever. As if they could actually legislate daylight.

We can find another way to honor Mr Ben Franklin other than messing with clocks - and software. There is no practical reason for daylight savings time today.

There are several good reasons, if you live within about 30 to 40 degrees of either pole.

There's little case if you live within 30 to 40 degrees of the Equator.

So in some latitudes, Daylight Savings Time will actually create daylight? Has this been scientifically proven?

Maybe we can agree to disagree on this issue.

Sometimes I hear the argument that "If we don;t change the clocks, then it is dark when I go to work/ the kids bus stop".

I don't buy it. The time you are expected at work or school is determined by your employer and your local school district, not Congress or DST.
