Is it possible for a script on a mobile web page to determine the general location of a cell phone based on the tower it's using?

Here's what I'm getting at. Let's say someone wanted to get directions to a destination, using their cell phone browser. But let's also say they're an out-of-town visitor, so they don't really know what to input as their starting point. Is there a way that a script could figure that out for them?

Well, this is how the iPhone "gps" hacks are working. They know the location of every tower in the network and "guess" your location based on your "hand offs" between towers. It is actually triangulation like the e911 cell services work.
