Exporting from Adwords to Adcenter

Any tips on getting my Adwords account ready for the move?

After Google's recent reliability issues I've decided to switch to MSN Adcenter. I would also like to do it via the import facility. I understand it will take a few days for MSN to do whatever it needs to do before my campaigns can be imported en masse.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do at the Adwords end to make the import easier? I do not mind stuffing up my Adwords account, losing ctr data etc. I couldn't stuff it up better than Google.

For instance there is some peculiarity with negative keywords? Should I add these to each Google Adgroup instead of applying them to the whole campaign? Are there limits on keywords per group - that kind of thing?

Any tips appreciated.

Alex,

Please PM me. I'd like to compare notes with you regarding your workarounds.

I'll share what I have first :), just want to see if we're thinking along the same lines........

Regards,

Nordie

Alex and Nordie, can you please keep the discussion public? It seem like this would be a helpful topic for everyone on this forum!

The small ammount of advice I have is to try and get into quicklaunch and have MSN do the dirty work for you.

I have just sat down with one adwords window and one adcenter one. With copying and pasting between the two I can create about 10 orders in half an hour - each order has one ad and each ad has one keyword. After half an hour my mind switches off and I even start making silly mistakes.

I would welcome any way I can improve this process.

To date I only see the import function working for many ads in an adgroup - the spreadsheet is not set up to import a campaign with many adgroups.

I thought quicklaunch was for new accounts?

Like Alex, I am one (of probably countless) AdWords refugees, seriously burned by Google's seriously flawed and inconsistent implementation of its latest AdWords "Quality" score algorithm. Given the unacceptably high risk this has introduced into our advertising, we have made a business decision to phase out our 6-figure annual AdWords spend and are seeking alternatives. (For a more humorous perspective on this unforgivable situation, please read my "Open Poem to Google AdWords" at [webmasterworld.com...] )

MSN: Many of us are looking to adCenter for salvation at this very moment. I am trying to give you our business, but have just spent hours trying to import keywords, etc. A batch tool for uploading multiple campaigns/orders/keywords would be a lifeline to us and perhaps an unprecedented business opportunity for adCenter. Please help us help you by making this a top priority.

According to ewhisper's post, this weekend's MSN adCenter upgrades will include a form of Power Posting, so this could be what we've been hoping for in moving campaigns from AdWords to adCenter. See ewhisper's post at:

I am not a refugee from adWords, but I did start several large MSN campaigns in early July. I am simply confirming that the upload tools for creating new campaigns & orders and adding keywords to each order were not sufficiently robust. The tutorials seemed to offer a lot of promise. But after too many hours studying the interface and asking & getting timely responses from the support team confirming the limitations of the import tools, ultimately I migrated my campaigns largely by brute force.

I'm still organising my database of keywords and ads ready for the move.

Anyone know what the maximum number of keywords in an Adcenter adgroup is, and the maximum number of adgroups in an order/campaign?
