Microsoft has announced the Edge Browser is now generally available for Linux. Previously, it was available in the dev channel, but can now be downloaded from the Microsoft site, or using the command line from Linux package manager.

Who was asking for this? That seems like offering steak at a vegan restaurant.

You took the very words out of my mouth - no pun intended - Linux users I know would be shuddering. Some of whom are also actual Vegans by coincidence as it turns out.

Who was asking for this?

Probably Microsoft, especially as Chrome is already available for Linux.

As someone who uses Linux as a daily driver, this is welcome. There have been issues in the past using Chrome for Linux and Office 365, so hopefully those issues will be a thing of the past.
Also, Chromium no longer plays nice with Google accounts, so the more the merrier as far as I am concerned.

I imagine the vast majority of Linux users use a mix of proprietary and open-source, and only a very small (and vocal) minority insist on only using fully open-source software.

If some people use Visual Studio Code on Linux, I guess they may find use with Edge also.

bluddy hell

I installed Beta Edge 6 months ago on my Linux Mint Cinnamon ... by happenstance, I uninstalled it just today.
Then I log in here to see that Edge is available for Linux ... LOL.

I didn't use the Beta much at all ... The Microsoft Tide Pod just sat in the task bar looking at me for nearly the duration.
Nothing very notable or unique about it -- Just a chrome browser with a Microsoft skin.

I'm certain that the Edge might work out well for some on Linux, but for me, I've pretty much got my browser selections set the way I like.
