When I started today, the Google toolbar displayed normally in my IE8. And then, suddenly, it was gone, replaced with an "x" in the space where the toolbar is located.
Closing/reopening IE*, reboot system, removong and reinstalling the feature in options... none of these has solved the issue.
Perhaps this is related: at about the same time this happened, my Norton warning displayed and my system locked up. Norton's message was something like "Chrome is using all available resources". But I wasn't running G-Chrome. My win vers in xp home.
Clicking on "more info", Norton told me that a file named setup.exe was using 98% of my cpu. Norton gave the source of the file as Google, and reported it as safe, but "very rare" in usage.
Any ideas from the brain trust here? Isn't this a rather strange Google event? Do you think the file push and the toolbar change are related?
Thanks in advance.
added: downloading and reinstalling G-bar solved this problem. Sorry, should have thought of that first.
