IE falls below 50% usage

Surprised no one has picked up on this.

StatCounter, which tracks Internet data, said that IE's share of the browser market fell to 49.9% in September. More people still use IE than any other single browser, but the combined market share of non-Microsoft browsers now outpaces IE. (source CNN [money.cnn.com])

I am not seeing this on any of our sites - the 3 major ones are running about 70-80% IE, most of the rest is Firefox, about 5% all others.

I have never seen the USA site fall below 75% or Canada below 60%.

If your target audience is US, it is no surprise you are not seeing this, since this is a global average. Here in Germany I have close to 55% Firefox and IE combined below 30%. The market share of non IE browsers in Europe is much higher than in the US. And since there are more internet users in Europe than in North America the global average of IE is much lower than a look at a US websites stats might indicate.

I posted almost a year ago that my IE traffic was down to 51%, many others were seeing the same thing.

However, the IE visitors were generating the majority of the revenue on the site, not the 49% other browsers.
