I had to smile at downloading FF in the IE 6 screen shot...

I love the way they have shown the Firefox download page, with the download dialogue box within the ie6 screenshot.

Heh. Netscape Gold and NS 3, then Netscape 4.0X for seemingly ages, before jumping to the NS 4.5X to 4.8X series. Those were the days! Even back then, I ran away from anything IE related.

Netscape 2 (Gold) and 3 were excellent, 4.x was a dog, it became vaguely usable only at 4.7. IE4, on the other hand, was fast, clean, and not a bloated crashy monster like NN4. I always used Netscape (then Mozilla, then Firefox), except for the period when IE4 was the best browser around.

I never really found about about netscape until netscape 2. Just got my 1st computer and had no idea what I was doing really, all i wanted to do was sit in hyperterm and play BBS games :-P

I remember reading and trying out a kb article that described opening up ie6, then opening lotus notes 4.5, then switch back to the ie6 process, watching the cpu meter spike to 100%
That was fun.

Who doesn't love Active Desktop? (IE4) Courtesy of NT4, Service pack 4? or was it 6a?

My computer always crashed when I tried using active desktop; though I liked the Idea, the Tech guy at work always broke into a cold sweat when he came to see why my computer had frozen.

But yes, the (good?) old days, My fist O/S was windows 3.11 and my only option/installed browser was netscape, I must admit I liked the mail client in that.

But now, I only ever use FF, and as I remote desktop quite a bit *apparently* you can only use IE for that (to instigate the process), which I think I total rot!

Nice blast down memory lane though :)

I hate developing for IE (or re-developing), but I don't intrinsically hate the brand. I remember somewhere around v4 or v5 it was pretty good stuff and possibly the real, competitive reason for the formation of Firefox.

lol I can remember starting with mosaic and then when Netscape came out evangelising for its use in BT - for a long time NS was the default browser in BT only when Netscape lost its way (see JMS's site for an explanation) with NS 4 did they switch to IE
