Microsoft Dev Center Open For Universal Windows Apps and Windows Phone 8.1 Apps

The Windows Phone Dev Center roll-out has begun and you should start seeing updates and new features later today. And later this week we will release an update to the Windows Dev Center.

People use Windows phones? I've never seen one in any of our client's logs.

Two employees of mine bought Windows phones, despite my advice, and both returned them for Androids.

Today(?), Anandtech reviewed the latest Windows phone and stated it's behind the curve in both software and hardware. So ...

I continue to advise people not to get a Windows phone AND I'm sure I won't be seeing them in any of our log files any time soon.

Windows Phone apparently does well in some markets, but I've only seen one myself in Japan. I do like the look and feel of the OS.

They have to get more apps to garner interest. That is the biggest drawback for most I think. This move toward Universal Apps should help get some developers on board.

I was in a phone store the other day and overheard a sales guy rubbishing the Windows Phone OS. As I continued to eavesdrop (I couldn't help it as he had a loud voice and I was standing next to him) he completely missed the point of what the people were asking.

I thought the sales guy was far too self-opinionated as he showed off his own, very latest Android phone to the customers.

They didn't come in for his phone, they had wanted the Nokia for the camera, but he was determined to sell them an Android phone. This, surely, must have been down to sales commission being better on Android.
The prospective buyers decided to walk away, rather than make a purchase.

The sales guy turned to me to help, and seemed disappointed that all I wanted was an accessory. I asked him how Windows Phone sales were going and he said they hadn't sold many, but Apple and Android sales were easy. Hmmmm. It sort of makes sense he hadn't sold many with that attitude, and especially when the prospective buyers, who'd clearly done some research, were ready to buy.
