EU Court Upholds Microsoft's Antitrust Fine, Reduced Slightly To $1.12 Billion

EU Court Upholds Microsoft's Antitrust Fine, Reduced Slightly To $1.12 Billion [bbc.co.uk]

Europe's second highest court has upheld a competition ruling against Microsoft saying it "essentially upholds the Commission's decision".

But it slightly reduced the fine from 899m euros ($1.12bn; Ł719m) to 860m euros.

The fine was imposed four years ago and was a record at the time.

It was imposed because Microsoft had not provided certain information about its products to competitors as it had been ordered to do in 2004

What I find even worse is that the EC is fighting competition while their IT system is dominated by Microsoft! That is really ridiculous...

I joined the epfsug (European Parliament Free Software User Group) (google it) to change change that!

Nothing wrong with them running Windows, its very cost effective and they're probably getting value in return. Free software isn't free when you tack on the jobs and skills necessary to support it and when you add vendor support, hardware support, infrastructure support and everything around that, its simply just cost effective to use windows where windows shines and linux where linux shines so on and so forth.
