Windows Live network plagued by spam

You've probably noticed it, if you have a Windows Live account:

Spammers are abusing the network by sending connection requests like this:
"Join {name}'s network on Windows Live"

and the body of the message includes a short promotional message - sometimes for male enhancement products, other times it's a woman who wants to show me her sexy undies.

Thanks for the offers, but I'll pass.

These kinds of spam invitations have always happened once in a while, but the recent flood of 'em indicates that someone left a door ajar...

I have several Windows Live accounts, but I haven't seen this sort of spam yet. Are you getting it in Hotmail or other mail?

Hotmail has some new (to me) privacy settings. You can turn off invitations from people outside your network or contacts. You may have your account set to accept network invitations from everyone
