@Dimitri! What a card! Panic mode has been in vogue since 2012!
@OP ... webdev is whatever makes things work these days. The methods are many and varied. See @engine's post above!
That said, plain jane ordinary straight HTML still works a treat, css for the color and presentation and, above all: CONTENT that users want.
Will remark that image heavy seems to have a bit more heft than the old days, perhaps because the users have become younger and less sophisticated? DO NOT USE autoplay video/audio for anything! That remains as ugly as ever. Keep things on site, avoiding third party as much as possible in these days of script/ad blockers. And keep GDPR (and likely some USA version of same in the near future) in mind!
Webdev can mean many things, and some are different for others, but I like to keep it simple:
Keep it in house, serve CONTENT users want, and don't do something stupid.
