Problem with uploading a pic from an iPhone

I'm having a somewhat specific problem, and I'm curious if anyone else has come across this.

I plug the iPhone in to the Windows 7 computer and try to upload a picture through a <input type="file"...>, but as soon as I click on "Open" the file name changes from something like IMG_1234.JPG to something random looking, like {100-luf745897-hjdfsk65464} (surrounded by curly braces; I just typed random gibberish, but the real changed filename could have a pattern that I didn't see).

The problem with that is that it removes the .JPG extension, so the site can't recognize it as a picture format.

This ONLY happens if the phone is plugged in to the computer and I try to upload directly from the iPhone through the computer. If I try to upload directly from the phone to the site then it doesn't do that.

Any thoughts?

I occasionally hear from people that can't get their pics to upload from their iPhone, so I suspect that the same problem affects more than just me. But no one has really sent details other than that they have an iPhone and "it doesn't work", so I can't be positive.

I use an app to get images from the iPhone to the computer. From the computer I manage it like any other image. I have never tried to post or upload an image from the iPhone though - and never tried to to use it the way you describe. One of the options offered in iPhone for images is to 'share' them and as far as I know it is done through a cloud account, not directly from the device.

I use an Android myself, and this is something I've only discovered tonight with my girlfriend's iPhone.

After plugging it in to the computer, I can browse to iPhone > DKIM. From there I have 3 directories; one is to the cloud, one is to the local hard drive, and I forget the third. For this issue, I'm using the directory that's to the phone's local hard drive.

You have to follow a very specific method for this problem to happen, but that might explain why I've had maybe 20 reports in the last 2 or 3 years from people that say "it doesn't work"...?
