Over the past few days I've been diving into PWA's Progressive Web Apps. The more I learn about the technology the more it looks like this can really be disruptive. Moreover, the writing is on the wall as the major players are all either are pushing, adopting or embracing this technology.

Google is the biggest player pushing hard for this. PWA's fit right in with the "Mobile first" and "AMP" paradigm. In fact, my interest for PWA's peaked as I was developing an AMP site and was able to see all the piece fit in. Service Workers, a key technology, is supported in Chrome, Opera, and Firefox. While iOS and Edge are currently working on integrating it.

Progressive Web Apps are experiences that combine the best of the web and the best of apps. They are useful to users from the very first visit in a browser tab, no install required. As the user progressively builds a relationship with the app over time, it becomes more and more powerful. It loads quickly, even on flaky networks, sends relevant push notifications, has an icon on the home screen, and loads as a top-level, full screen experience.

Is this going to be next paradigm shift of the web or is this just another passing fad?

What impact will this have on the static model, the simple WP like CMS based sites?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

What are some of the challenge and hurdles for the adoption and propagation of this Technology?

Monetization appears to be a big one. There does not seem to be Adsense solution for this and AdMob is only for native apps.

What impact will this have one native apps? Will this render them obsolete?

Should there be PWA forum on WW?
