Mobile menu showing on ordinary desktop pc's

Anyway to stop this?

Currently I have a niggle with my site and I'm wondering how to get it fixed.

My website is responsive in that when the browser window falls below a certain dimension the menus form up to a sinlge dropdown containing submenu options instead.

All good.

The problem I have is that whilst this works great on an iphone, it also does it on the pc if the browser window is reduced in size. I've seen many clients with netbooks or work computers with low resolution screen which even with the browser two thirds of the screen size the responsive menu still shows.

Yet on an Ipad the menu system isn't responsive, but completely normal. (which is fine, my site is easy to read).

My question is what would be the best way to address this. In other words, to get the responsive menu kick in for mobile devices only (but not tablets as the ipad is fine).

If I understand your question correctly, getting your media query something like this may help


@media handheld, only screen and (max-width: 767px){
}

The way Responsive Web Design works is that they are dependent on browser widths that have a media query to change the layout once the browser is within the range specified. Hence, if the browser is resized/reduced to a size it triggers the specific media query for that width.

Yet on an Ipad the menu system isn't responsive

It actually is, but you don't know it because the iPad has a higher than normal pixel ratio. So although the screen is physically small, the browser behaves as if it's much bigger.
