Microsoft has introduced the new concept for Windows 10, and eventually Windows 11 PCs, Windows 365 Cloud PC. This, it explains, takes the Windows OS to the Microsoft Cloud, streaming the "full Windows experience." This includes apps, data, and settings to your personal or corporate devices.

This approach creates a fully new personal computing category, specifically for the hybrid world: the Cloud PC.

Windows 365 becomes available on August 2, 2021, to organizations of all sizes.

Another step closer to Windows being 100% SaaS

I predicted that Microsoft may get to 100% SaaS by 2025 -- It looks as if it might be sooner rather than later.

Yes, there's a big push on this, and I can see why this would work in the corporate sector. Support would be so much easier for MS, yet the stakes are also higher should the system fall over.

When I pay for OS or any software, I want to own it and have it on my machine(s). Not a big fan of everything cloud.

Microsoft seems to have exposed the pricing accidentally, and it's $31 per user, per month.

For a home user I can't see this being anything other than the end of the OS to consumers.

$31 / mo = $372 / year ... a lot more expensive ...

By the way, when Windows 7 was released, there was a discounted price for the 1000 or 2000 first buyers in my country, it was 20�, if I remember correctly, for the complete home edition. I succeeded to grab 2. Then, it happened this version was eligible to the free upgrade to Windows 10. So that was a very good deal.

However, now, I switched to Linux, and just keep one computer running windows, for testing.

Don't forget, this offering is currently for business, but it does seem logical that Microsoft would want to find a way to eventually have Windows 11 for consumers.

Linux could very well get a boost from this move.

Linux could very well get a boost from this move.

And various flavors of Linux have come a long way and have vastly improved since 2002.
I use Linux Mint (Cinnamon) exclusively myself.

I loaded Android to a Toshiba Satellite Radius about 3 years ago and messed about with it for a bit and aside from all of the eye candy in the soon to be released Windows 11, the differences between it and the Android are strikingly similar.
