Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10's voracious appetite for storage remains undiminished in the upcoming May 2019 Update (1903).

Anyone remember will Bill Gates said 640k mem was enough? :)

Yep - I can remember that.

Back in the days of early Windows versions say 3.1 an acquaintance of mine was very miffed about Windows hogging very precious disk space, like back then you might have only had a 30 Mb [I truly can't remember] HDD. Back in 1990?

Anyway being quite a clever DOS programmer he wrote a program for himself which identified every file in the C:\Windows directory which had not been accessed in the previous twelve months - these were removed from Windows to an older drive he had spare.

Yes, Mr. Microsoft's Windows still didn't miss a beat, didn't notice the missing files, and the disk space recovered was quite substantial to disk size back then.

Then again as another friend once said:

"When they develop cheap 25 Tb drives for general use, and MOBO's will have 256 Gb of RAM - Microsoft will expand their latest Windows to consume as much as possible - you see it has always been that way. Microsoft is full of pointless bloat"

I've done half a dozen 10" & 13" laptops so far and the biggest use of space has been 17GB, did they change something?

Two big plus points we've found so far:

1. Deleting the old OS was much quicker than before, in fact some machines wouldn't delete them whatsoever.

2. All the machines are far, far quicker and smoother especially the smaller 32GB devices, my 128GB SSD was always fast but is now amazing.

All in all, it seems to have been a good update for me.
