According to Microsoft, it's signalled the end of Microsoft Paint graphics program with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

I also notice Outlook Express will also be removed.

Here's the full list of Deprecated and Removed programs and functions.

It seems Microsoft has decided to clarify that Paint will be available [bit.ly] in the Windows Store, but it will no longer be part of Windows 10 operating system.

Used it only a couple times with XP. As I remember, it worked very well but wasn't as robust as some of the 3rd party image programs.

At the time I worked at a school that had a deal with Adobe, so we all got the Photoahop suite free.

Paint was a fun little tool to mess around with, but did anyone ever use it for anything productive? I dare say you could do some very basic editing with it, but there are far better alternatives out there.

Apparently, Paint 3D will be part of Windows 10

There is already a 3D graphics program in 10 Pro that came with the Creator update, or maybe it was already there and just got the 3D feature with the update. Didn't know it was named Paint. I'll have a look when I get to my desk.

Old program needs old anthem to go along with its departure.

Yup... I found Paint *and* Paint3D

(Windows 10 Pro w/ Creators update)

After Creators (my understanding) the retro version of paint will only be available (for free) from the windows store.

Cute program, sophisticated for very basic editing, but crude enough to keep the "old graphics" alive ... and there is a visual market for that out there. Long may Paint live!

Well obviously not.

Yes, I know that's what it says... but as I just reported, I still have Paint *and* Paint3D. I just opened each one. They are completely different. Paint is now called "the Paint app." Paint3D is just called "Paint3D."

Now the *new* installs may not have Paint onboard. That's a different story.

Ahhhhh... My Surface does not have Paint, only Paint3D. It came with Windows 10 Pro.

My Desktop, with both Paint and Paint3D, started out with Windows 7 Pro... that's likely why I have both.

Most likely the case, stands to reason. :)
