Microsoft warns Windows 7 is dangerously insecure in 2017

Markus Nitschke, the head of Windows at Microsoft Germany posted a rundown of the situation on Microsoft’s Technet site. In it he says Windows 7 “does not meet the requirements of modern technology, nor the high security requirements of IT departments.” It’s based on a security model from almost a decade ago at this point, which doesn’t take into account the nature of online threats. Nitschke says that waiting for the official end of support to move can result in added costs from malware.
...
With only three more years of support, you can expect Microsoft will spend more and more time pushing this narrative that Windows 7 isn’t good anymore. It desperately doesn’t want Windows 7 to become XP v2.0.

The last of the Windows XP diehards will likely meet a natural death as those users realize they can't access most of the SSL websites.

Win7 works well on today's websites so M$ needs to keep the presure on users to upgrade to 10 in order to fulfill their grand scheme of a One Platform web.

It'll have to go, eventually, and I would have thought that Win 7 users ought to be migrating to something other than Win 7. It doesn't have to be a Windows OS, of course.
I have one person I know that is determined to remain on Win 7. I have done my utmost to convince them otherwise, but they won't budge. It's not money that's the issue in that instance, it's the knowledge that tracking your every move really puts them off.
