Introducing Unified Update Platform (UUP) [blogs.windows.com]

One of the biggest community and customer benefits of UUP is the reduction you’ll see in download size on PCs. We have converged technologies in our build and publishing systems to enable differential downloads for all devices built on the Mobile and PC OS. A differential download package contains only the changes that have been made since the last time you updated your device, rather than a full build.

I've been fortunate to bennefit from an extremely fast broadband connection and haven't felt the update pains others have reported.

However it's encouraging news to hear M$ listening to user feedback and taking actions for improvement.

This is good news.

Will it mean less intrusive updates. You know the sort: you turn on your machine and it sits there telling you its updating, updating, updating....

Ya see... that's never happened to me. I always see the files downloading in the background while I work, then get a prompt telling me the files have completed downloading and ready to install. I can update at that time or later after I'm done working.
