Given the announcement last week that the Group Policy editor would be neutered (preventing the user from turning off live titles and intrusive third party partner apps) I actually rolled back two machines and did clean installs of Win 7 on four others. In total I have removed 7 installs of Win 10. In the scheme of things that's not a huge hit, but I suspect I won't be the only one who does this.

It might be their software, and they might have given the first bite of the apple for free, but they do intend for the end user to pay for their pOS (the p stands for prospecting). What MS has forgotten is the HARDWARE is mine 100% and I get to chose what I install on it.

Meanwhile, the rest of my systems are Linux and thus aren't included in the "numbers game".

My Surface Pro 4 is great, really like the update. I don't do any work on this device so I Tablet mode by default and seldom change to the desktop view. Haven't received the update on my desktop yet.

About camera for secure login - seems most devices will move to retina scan, I have it on my Android phone. There are conflicts of course, but theoretically it would be impossible to fake someone's eyeball, unless of course you were in possession of it.

For me, only the features that were updated were reset back to default, so no... not "everything."

I had removed Cortana a few months ago. The update put it back however some users report the upgrade removed Cortana completely.

Updating via the Media Creation Tool (rather than Windows Update) has apparently been a successful workaround (using the 'Upgrade this PC now' option) for those recieving error messages during installation.

Not for me on my Lumia phones which is why I am posting.

I have 2 x 1520s and 1 x 930.

All three took three consecutive days to update to Win10, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week.

The 930 seems ok, the camera is slower to start and so is whatsapp, the phone still does not work on speaker like so many others who have been complaining for ages.

The 1520s are so much slower for the camera and whatsapp to start. Quick draw snapshots are not possible now, the image quality is still as good as ever. Whatsapp is also noticeably slower to start PLUS it really does get its knickers in a twist at times and literally "goes off on one" and when doing this ends up freezing after a fit of the screens {{{{shakes}}}} ... Usually if the phone is left to its own devices it will settle down and is usable again however I always re-boot it after such an occassion.

Overall I prefer my old 8.1, it was much more stable, I've been averaging a full re-boot at least once a day but what concerns me is that some of the apps have disappeared completely and some of the new ones have to be played with for ages until finding out just how the darned thing works. They are neither simple nor logical.

Talking of which, where the heck have all my email addresses gone? I mean all of them, not one is there yet I am sync'd to live.com with everything else.

Maybe I'll get everything sorted soon however at the moment I am 50/50 whereas I was a 100% 8.1 fan, for the first time in ages I am looking at other phones, seriously, I am.

The rollout for the Anniversary update is not as urgent for MS as getting machines on 10 in the first place. The update is significantly larger than the original (over 3gb) so don't confuse ordinary security updates as having received the anniversary update.

I suspect the first clue the update is installed will be live titles suddenly appearing in the start menu (if you had disabled under uninstalled them). :)

I come away with the notion that this has more to do with phones than anything else

Removed camera and mic drivers long time ago - no new installed .. Can still remove Cortana from the desktop. Had to remove the app-store "again" -- no troubles with email because third party is used. -- Location remained off - Had to turn apps access to notifications off again - Speech, inking, typing all off - off -off --Apps access to account info remained off -- Had to turn apps access to contacts off again -- Apps access to calendar remained off -- Apps access to messaging remained off -- Apps access to radio remained off -- Sync with devices remained off -- Feedback frequency remained "never" -- Shared updates from other machines also remained off.

Smaller squished looking menu icons on the desktop - probably because phone users had trouble touching text would be my guess - easier to see a picture than it is to see words on those tiny screens I suppose.

I don't do Live so I don't have to worry about all of the stupid ads -- Though I do use Bing to search via the "FIREFOX" browser :) --

The box is used for wifes schoolwork .. The laptop is dual-boot Windows/Linux -- I usually only touch base with Windows because knowing it allows for me to deal with all of my Windows 10 fanboy clients -- All of the work I do for clients though, is via Linux

I'm still experiencing daily problems with my 1520 however fewer than before BUT a friend of my came specifically came to seek me out the other day. He has had a 1520 for more than a year running the "developers" version with very few problems.

Why did he come to see me? One question, "Have you got 8.1, my phone's almost useless now."

So, I've told him to keep re-booting it daily and wait a few days and then we'll make a decision since from experience I know how long this takes to do.

Fingers crossed MS have resolved loads of issues!

This weekend I have had two phones and a tablet with massive updates.

That's it, Win10 gone from my Lumia 1520s, this is not a stable OS for this machine, several times the phone has completely frozen on incoming calls, 8.1 is back on and it's then one realises just how slow and unstable 10 is.

I am now testing my Lumia 930 with Win10 and after several days it seems to be stable, running fine and not yet experiencing any of the 1520 problems however I really to not like Win10's calendar and email client, fortunately I do not use those much so they're not a deal breaker.

Good news for you. On my desktop, I had all disabled or uninstalled except weather, and that's the way it's stayed thru 1607 and recent routine updates.

I have been so impressed by Win10 on my 930 I bought a 950xl and it is fantastic, the odd, occasional glitch however nothing I cannot live with to the extent that I've sold both my 1520s. Several friends have tried the 950xl and are seriously considering it as their next phone.

Now we have several Xoom Android tablets we simply do not use, my Acer Win10 tablet is ... simply a pain, it won't update because it is "on battery power only" ... NO IT IS NOT!

I can't remember the last time I switched on my Win7 laptop.

My Yoga running Win10 has had so many re-starts/factory re-sets, it is ridiculous, totally and utterly unreliable as a business machine, therefore I am now wondering what to do should I decide to change/upgrade/whatever.

While I never "recommend" anything, I can say that my Surface Pro 4 256GB Core i7 is a great device, running the Windows 10 Pro anniversary update with no customization (never seen an ad yet.)

I don't use it for web work or programing. All that is done on my desktop (also with Windows 10 Pro anniversary update.)

I run Surface Pro 4 in tablet mode 90% of the time. I use for my music studio: MS Office, music notation, music backing tracks, credit card sales & some social media management. Rarely do I attach the keyboard for use as a laptop.
