For those concerned with bandwidth:

In Windows Update/Advanced Settings disable the allow updates from everywhere (which means you will not allow your machine to be a P2P broadcaster)

ENABLE the Defer Updates check box. This will stop all but security updates for at least four months. Since the Anniversary update is scheduled pretty soon (about 3.6gb) you can let others deal with the new changes and see what to prepare for.

Change Updates from Automatic to Schedule, which simply means Win10 won't reboot while you are in the middle of something.

If you really want to improve performance on machines with less than 8gb ram, disable the animations (System/Advanced System Properties/Performance Settings/click Best Performance)

Can't find System/Advanced System Properties/Performance Settings on the laptop. Not even Advanced System Properties, or Performance Settings.

Only by running SystemPropertiesAdvanced at the command prompt can I get in and do it.

I assume that is what you meant.
