Microsoft announces Windows 10 event for January 21st

Microsoft first unveiled Windows 10 at an enterprise event in San Francisco, but we understand the January event will be more significant. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will be in attendance, alongside Windows chief Terry Myerson, Xbox head Phil Spencer, and Joe Belfiore, who looks after the phone, tablet, and PC experience of Windows. Given the number of Microsoft executives in attendance and the fact the company is live-streaming the event, it's likely we'll get a good look at how Windows 10 will work across PCs, phones, tablets, and the Xbox One.

In anticipation of the event and presentations, i'm hoping that Microsoft has learnt from its mistake of appearing to forget the desktop user. Windows 8 alienated many, and then it was too late.
Somehow, it needs to give users the things it needs on a desktop/laptop that it had in Win 7, and to get its product into tablet computers, without the premium associated with its Surface.
