I have on my two year old home laptop. I defragged the hard drive last night and I will see if this makes any improvement to its performance.

My work laptop, which is brand new, appears to be working fine.

I have several patched XP systems and haven't seen a noticeable slowdown on any of them since patching. Have you installed anything else, or changed any settings that might have affected performance?

No changes, XP Pro SP2.

Also, try to kill applications running in the background, one by one. Unplug network before nuking firewall ;)

It seems to be affecting network access and now observed similar on a vista machine. Curious!

My home laptop seems to be fine now. Maybe the defrag helped.

I have this problem on a several machines. It first showed up in November or December after an update. I started a thread here about it, I will look for it and link to it. It also happened recently to a nearly new computer.

It take 10 to 15 minutes to fully boot.

I spent 2 or 3 hours talking to M$ about it, to no avail.

The concensus was that it was my anti-virus. But I uninstalled the anti-virus and it made no difference. I did an online registry scan and it is reporting hundreds of errors.

So ... what is the best registry fixing program? Please advise.

Like you, it all started with a Windows Update. Then a comes the super slow booting.

Our issue sorted itself out with a server reboot. So I suspect something in the patches affected the way client machines sync'ed up.

wish my problem was as simple as that

A vista update slowed my machine massively a few weeks ago, and ZoneAlarm needed an update to fix it.
