Be forewarned that all of the machines I've updated so far have required reboots. That includes servers.
I have Auto Update set to download updates but no automatically apply them.
Last night all 3 of my computers auto applied them and rebooted overridding my preferences.
I would guess there was something MS thought was critical in them.
Are you certain your settings are for download only?
Yep... in fact this computer I'm on wants me to install some updates right now.
My kids computer is visible from here... I saw it reboot last night... thought maybe the cat had done it.
This computer... wanted to reboot right when I was going to bed... it was late and I was tired so I assumed I had initiated the reboot.
But I had left my laptop on last night in my shipping room. Today after un-hibranating it there was a message saying Windows Update had rebooted it.
In all cases I was a month or so behind in updating it... don't know if that had anything to do with it.

I shut down everything, especially since I noticed some Outlook 2007 updates but my local machine still wanted to shut down to complete the install
