Just discovered this great forum, very informative :)
My problem:
My desktop is Windows XP professional and it connects to the internet via a Witreless Netgear DG834 router. The PC is connected to the router via LAN cable as their proximity is very close.
I can connect to the internet just fine. I got the wireless router for when I get a laptop.
On XP I created a home network with these settings:
1. Connection method was: computer connects to the internet through a residential gateway.
2. Computer description is Dessktop PC and computer name is DESKTOP
3. Workgroup name is MSHOME
4. I turned on file and printer sharing.
5. I then finished the network setup and restared.
I share 2 folders on my xp by right-clicking and then sharing.
I now have my laptop that has Vista Premium installed. All file sharing features are switched on via the network sharing center.
In Vista network all I see is my netgear router and my laptop PC. I don't understand why I cannot see the folders on my XP desktop.
Does anyone have any suggestions as I am almost giving up.
Kind regards
Karl
Note that this is with the network map only; you should still be able to connect to the resources on the XP computer in Network Places without problems. However since you referenced being able to see the router, I assumed this is what you were talking about.
