Thanks for the heads-up nancyb.

Just to clarify, it appears to be one vulnerability here that affects 10 different versions of Windows...or were you referring to the Patch Tuesday batch of fixes from MS? That is part of MS's regular security patch release schedule.

I was refering to the number of patches installed on my system (Win XP) affecting various M$ products.

I assume that other versions of the M$ OS would require a similar number of patches although some of these patches may have been part of the regular Patch Tuesday.

There were two more sent from secunia yesterday afternoon:

[secunia.com...] Internet Explorer Multiple Vulnerabilities Highly Critical

and

[secunia.com...] Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Buffer Overflow Extremely Critical.

If you updated because of the first advisory the second two were taken care of.

I assume most everyone here keeps current, but then we have newbies that may not be as aware.

The number of patches can differ depending on whether you use
[windowsupdate.microsoft.com...]
or
[update.microsoft.com...]

Windows Update is primarily for the OS, but Microsoft Update includes Microsoft Office and other Microsoft software updates so the number can vary. On all of my systems I had as few as 8 updates and as many as 14 on different machines. Depending on your setup the number may vary. Don't be too concerned if you have more or less than 10.
