Where are the .dbx files located?

I'm trying to backup all important stuff on my box and I ahve used the search function to find the .dbx files and don't see them anywhere. I looked in outlook express ( my eamil client) and they are not there, so where in the heck are these .dbx files? I've got quite a few years and folders worth of emails, so I'd like to keep these current and up to date for backups.

I don't have OE installed on any of my machines, so I can't run a test, but from memory I believe it was

Tools ¦ Options ¦ Maintenance (tab)

There should be a Store Folder button there somewhere. That should have the path info for your DBX file.

Outlook Express stores .dbx files in each user's profile folder usually. Are you certain that a search for *.dbx is not turning up anything?

Thanks Bill. I found them under C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\long string here\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Seaching for *.dbx only found the backup ones I had on the D drive, but not the current ones on C drive. Funky.

Glad you found those files.

It's very odd that the search didn't turn up the .dbx files. Could your personal folders have permissions set on them that don't allow the search system access? Even if you set encryption on the folder search should be able to find the files.

Hehe permissions? No idea about setting permissions, but yeah I thought it was strange that it didn't turn them up.
