ASPX - SEO friendly URL with database id

We are trying to get URL's for a site SEO friendly and keyword rich. The developers have managed to get keyword in the URL but also have included a unique reference in database reference in the url so its unique.

If we look at the apache world, we can create url's without this. Can this be done on aspx ?

of course you can do it with either... ... as long as the 'filename' is completely unique, you do not need a 'reference' number with either iis or apache.

the reason they have used (presumably a unique number) is that database lookups are quicker (although you wouldn't notice it unless you have a large table holding the data.)
the other reason is that you could then use the same keyword in the 'word part of the url'

if the keyword part is unique you don't need the unique id if the script is capable of searching the db on the keyword provided.

if you keep the keyword-plus-unique-id urls, be sure the keyword(s) cannot be replaced by arbitrary strings.
(mostly to avoid duplicate content issues)
