I didn't watch of follow the launch, but I did catch up with the launch news today. Wow, can the price of those new phones be correct!

The iPhone X seems incredibly expensive, imho. I don't doubt it'll be wonderful build quality, and the software will be great, but, really, how many will Apple sell that that price? Oh, and the price, it starts at $999.

I read that there's pressure on Apple to keep announcing more great things and to keep its finances going in the upwards direction. Could that be part of the reason for the high-priced premium iPhone X.

Or it could be the infra-red facial recognition features that let you unlock the device by looking at it. This one is not fooled by a photo. The screen is not the typical LED either, it is OLED which let the image expand to the edge of the screen. I won't be buying one, but the newer features may pull in those with the bucks to spend. As a traditional update they brought out the iPhone8 and the near-tablet sized 8+ with new features on both starting at about $700.

The iWatch was improved so it now has phone capability and no longer requires an iPhone. AppleTV device now offers higher (4K) resolution, a remote touchpad control and faster execution of commands.

What is truly disgusting, IMHO, is the actual cost to manufacture the phone and the 900% mark up. No phone is worth that kind of money.

>No phone is worth that kind of money.

Purely as a phone, I completely agree.

I'm not defending it, but, really, it's a powerful computer.
Samsung's equivalent device, as phranque mentioned, is a little cheaper, but, once again, these are premium products.

>>Oh, and the price, it starts at $999

strange price point to me, given that the reason you'd charge that as a retailer is to make the price sound less than $1000 (i do it myself on selling price points, although i'm more $9.99 and $99)

... and i always thought apple fans prided themselves on paying HIGH prices for the products - for various reasons.

thus i would have though a starting price of $1000 would have made more sense!
